Uniform

School uniform is an integral part of life at Queen Mary’s High School, maintaining our school’s long and well-established traditions as well as upholding our expectations of students’ pride in their appearance, behaviour and performance.

We also have a pre-loved uniform shop in school. For further information, please contact the school office. We welcome any donations of clean and re-usable uniform, these can be dropped off to the school office.  

Uniform requirements  

To support affordability and parental choice, Queen Mary's High School provides non-branded alternatives for a number of uniform items. Parents may choose either the branded or non-branded option where indicated. 

Compulsory branded items  

  • Queen Mary’s High School Blazer 
  • Queen Mary’s High School PE T-Shirt 
  • Queen Mary’s High School Skort 

 

Optional branded items  

  • Queen Mary’s High School trousers and/or 
  • Queen Mary’s High School pleated skirt  
  • Queen Mary’s High School bottle green V-neck jumper 

 

Compulsory non branded items  

  • Plain bottle green pleated skirt  
  • Plain black trousers meeting the school specification. Narrow/skinny leg trousers are not permissible. Trousers should measure approximately 44cm around the ankle. Trousers worn beneath knee length skirts are permissible 
  • Light green blouse, either short or long sleeve  
  • Plain bottle green V-neck jumper  
  • Plain Black PE Midlayer 
  • Plain Black PE Trackpants 
  • Tights – plain black or flesh coloured (leggings are not permitted) or,  
  • Socks – plain white or black ankle or knee length. Trainer socks are not permitted 
  • Shoes – black leather or leather look; fully enclosed with a wide low heel. Trainer-type shoes, and boots are not permitted; however, boots may be worn in snowy conditions. Footwear must not have a contrasting-coloured logo, trim or sole.  

 

Students should attend school in their PE kit on timetabled PE days only. Students must wear normal school uniform on all other days unless otherwise authorised by the school. 

 

Sixth Form Dress Code  

All members of our Sixth Form need to be presented smartly to maintain the excellent reputation of Queen Mary's High School. Sixth form students are seen as role models and help to set the expected high standard for our younger students.  

 

Compulsory branded items

Compulsory non branded items  

Green and white striped blouse or white blouse or  

White shirt 

Grey suit jacket/blazer paired with either:  

  • matching straight grey skirt
  • matching long grey skirt, or 
  • matching grey trousers.  

 

Optional items  

  • Optional grey V-neck jumper.  

 

Optional uniform and general appearance  

 

  • Outdoor coat – plain black and long enough to cover the blazer. Slogans/motifs are not permissible; leather, denim or fur are not permissible. Hoodies are not part of school uniform and should not be worn, either over or under the blazer or in place of the blazer. 
  • Scarf, gloves and hat: Plain black with no slogans or motifs. 
  • Hijab: Plain black or bottle green. 
  • Jewellery: The only jewellery permitted is: 
  • A plain wristwatch. 
  • A religious symbol on a chain worn under the blouse. 
  • One small plain ring. 
  • A Medic-alert or SOS bracelet or chain. 
  • One small pair of stud earrings, one earring in each earlobe. 
  • One small nose stud. 
  • Hair: should be natural in colour  
  • Make up: if worn should be natural-looking foundation and black or brown mascara. False eye lashes are not allowed. The general principle is discreet. Nails should be short, practical, and natural in appearance.  

 

Non-uniform days  
On designated non-uniform days, students should wear smart casual clothes which are both appropriate and practical for a school environment.
